The space
HISTORY & DESIGN
Originally built by a three-time Archibald prize winner and frequented by artists and creatives, the house's design is based on the fundamental shapes of a triangle and circle. It is rich in creative history and contemporary inspiration. Our collection of mid-century furniture and contemporary art are spread throughout the house, along with ceramics, tableware and crockery by local makers.
SUSTAINABILITY & PASSIVE DESIGN
The house is nestled in nature and designed from natural materials, including timber and glass. We have recently converted it into a high performing passive house with triple glazing timber frames and insulation. The house is cool in summer with ceiling fans in the top bedroom, and toasty warm in winter, thanks to electric heat pump hydronic heating. We can operate this remotely and make the house warm for you on arrival! A Cheminees Phillipe fireplace sits in the main living room. Retractable fly wires mean you can leave the house open at night if you’d like the fresh air.
INSIDE THE HOME
Take up residence in the ground floor master bedroom. Located off the main living room; here a luxurious queen bed and beautiful ensuite bathroom await. Or sleep in the lofty second bedroom, which is located on the second storey and accessed via a spectacular vintage spiral staircase at the end of a curved galley hallway. There is also a third bedroom with a king single day bed, taking the house’s total sleeping capacity to five.
We love immersing ourselves in our surrounds, so have chosen not to have blinds in the house – BYO eye masks! Please also BYO beach towels, but please make use of our 100% luxe bath towels and bed linen.
During your waking hours, enjoy the main living room’s views, mid-century vibe, library, study nook, and our collection of board games. Stay cosy in the cooler months with a wood heating fireplace.
The retro-inspired kitchen offers a bright colour scheme with modern features including an induction cooktop and dishwasher. All crockery is handpicked and locally made.
High speed NBN internet means you can easily work from home or watch a movie on the many streaming services we subscribe to.
THE PROPERTY
Nature is close to hand. Surrounded by mature trees, including many Australian natives, the Art House Coastal Retreat features floor to ceiling windows and decks on all sides, and is an escapist immersion in nature, comfort, creativity and luxury.
The property backs onto Stony Creek and is surrounded by bush, with the adjoining bush block continuing all the way to the beach. Enjoy the sounds of the pobblebonk frogs in the creek, and the kookaburras laughing at dusk. Meet the resident parrakeets who will eat out of your hand on the deck. If you’re lucky, you may hear or even see the area’s powerful owl or be visited by koalas.
There is also a BBQ, two outdoor seating areas and a fire pit for your use, and trampoline on the grounds (no nets).
SURROUNDS
The southern Mornington Peninsula also has much to offer. It’s a short three-minute walk to the local Shoreham café and yoga classes, a five-minute walk to the spectacular Pines, Little Noosa beach and Shoreham Beach – the best kept secrets on the Mornington Peninsula! At low tide explore the rock pools; at high tide catch a wave and boogie board or surf with the locals. Our two Ben Buckler stand up paddle boards are available on negotiation.
The Peninsula also offers world class golf courses, Point Leo Estate, wineries, the Peninsula Hot Springs, Gunnamatta Trail Rides and more.

The host looks forward to welcoming guests who share our passion for nature, art and design, and the experiences which stem from creating beautiful spaces for communal gathering with family and friends.

WOW
We felt at home right off the bat. Comfortable, relaxing and very well located. If you want a rural retreat with a down to Earth feel this is the place. Close to everything and 'far from the madding crowd' all in one.

This is a most beautiful house with comfortable furniture and a relaxing outlook into a river bed. The location was excellent with an easy walk to Shoreham beach and a quick drive to Point Leo and Flinders

"This place is the perfect spot for a relaxed getaway, nestled in between the trees and the beach. Great place!"

Such a beautiful happy house; set in the bush, gorgeous design, heaps of light and bright colors.
We fell quickly into a tranquil routine. Waking to the sight of gum trees, stroll to the local café in the mornings, walks to the beach in the afternoon and evenings by the fire. Everything we needed.
The well equipped kitchen was a joy to cook in and the bed was super comfy with lush linen sheets. The kids loved the trampoline and the many spaces to explore.
Anna was a great host, thoughtful, responsive and generous. Big thank you, we had a wonderful stay.
We will definitely be back.

Booked Anna's place at short notice after other plans went awry and pleased to say that was a good slice of fortune!
The house itself is true to its 60's (?) roots but with a stylish modern facelift - open plan, amongst the trees in the sleepy hollow that is Shoreham. All facilities are top notch, particularly if you love to cook - there's well stocked kitchen and good quality bbq/outdoor dining area. Thanks Anna!

The house is beautifully designed and felt very warm and cozy with the fireplace and indoor heating.
House is well equipped with everything you need. The location is fantastic, just short 10min walk to the pines beach and 5min walk to the local cafe. Kids loved seeing the donkeys and rabbits on the nearby property. Didn’t bother us at all that there were no blinds. Felt we were fully immersed with nature. Anna was very accommodating and prompt with communication.

Wonderful beach house, in a fantastic location.
The house is both beautiful and functional with a relaxed feel that makes for the perfect escape. A unique design, light filled and surrounded by trees you really do feel close to nature. The house is finished with an eye for design and thoughtful touches that compliment the setting.
With incredible walks, beautiful beaches and great amenities all accessible within minutes our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Anna was a great host, responsive and available as needed.

*****
We have just returned from a little over a week tucked away at this beautifully appointed accommodation. On its own piece of bush, backing onto a creek, creates a wonderful sense of calm.
Anna is a wonderfully generous host and provided suggestions of places to visit local to Shoreham. It was a short walk to the beach and local cafe, and only minutes to nearby restaurants and wineries.
We loved the new wood fireplace that heated the place perfectly. We also loved the fact that it felt like we were immersed in the bush, but still so close to the beach and good food.
An incredibly comfortable house that we will most definitely be returning to!
